Sculpture By The Sea 2013
Cottesloe Beach, Western Australia / Bondi Beach, New South Wales
re-form, 2013, recycled fibreglass surfboards, polyester resin, dimensions variable
re-form continues an exploration into appropriated materials and the implications of working with the readymade. The title re-form is a double entendre referring at once to the physical reconstruction of found objects as well as the surfing terminology for a wave that has broken and ‘re-forms’ to break again.
Drawing inspiration from time in the water and weaving in references to Australian surf culture, the work seeks to convey fluid visual experiences in the arrangement of abstract geometric forms in the landscape. The considered assemblage of these pieces projects the unique histories of the material into this artwork.
