Local Knowledge, 2016, chalk on fibre cement panels,161 x 168cm
This work draws upon invisible layers of inherited and experiential knowledge of water movement overlaying a famed surfing bay in W.A’s southwest. Hastily drawn lines portray keyholes, channels, take-offs and bubbles in a coded language decipherable only to the initiated.
Atlantic Void, 2016, digital photographic print on Hahnemühle rag paper, 20.5 x 25.5cm. Edition of 6 + 2 A.P.
Realised during a residency on the south coast of Spain Atlantic Void visually articulates the latent transcendental forces existing within oceanic bodies of water. The work draws up spiritual phenomena and hidden energies experienced upon entering these environments.
Purposeless Disoriented Euphoria, 2016, MDF, pine, acrylic, glass, mirror, fluorescent light, dimensions variable
At their breaking point waves exist in a state of flux between permeable fluidity and impenetrable force. Placing themselves in this zone, surfers seek out a potent combination of vertigo, catharsis and aesthetic reward. This assemblage explores the phenomenological and alchemical processes that shape the mind of the surfer.
